I like having curly hair.
My hair is naturally wavy, and used to be pretty curly when I was little, read: it went away by the time I was 8.
If I heat curl my hair, I can pretty much expect it to go flat in about an hour, even if I spray the heck out of it, the one exception, my wedding hair that was done with a ceramic flat iron (it was amazing to see hair get curled with a flat iron!) and sprayed and pinned, that stayed in!
So, if I ever really want my hair to be curly and stay that way mostly I have to put in foam curlers while it is wet and wait for it to dry, usually overnight, which means sleeping on it. and then I look like this
Which isn't comfortable to sleep on at all.
Also, I have a TON of hair, it gets commented on EVERY time I go to the salon to get it cut, even if the lady has cut my hair a bajillion times before I get "wow! you have so much hair!" so that means that it takes longer to curl and more curlers, because I try to take much smaller sections so that it drys faster. Plus all the time that goes into it, and I have to be sure that I won't be going out the rest of the evening so the public isn't terrified by the sight of me in curlers....
All that to say.... I have been thinking of getting a perm. Not one of those little teeny curls perms, but with bigger curls, like you would get with 1-1 1/2 inch foam curlers ( I am told that you can do this) and if I don't like it I can always wash it out within the first 24 hours to get rid of it...
I had a perm once before, my mom did it for me my freshman year of High School, it was tiny curls, but SO CUTE! until it started growing out... then it got annoying... and I didn't want to re-perm it so I had to wait for it to grow out so that I could cut it out... But I think with bigger curls it wouldn't be so bad if I let it grow out.
I had my hair curled on Sunday, and told Kyle I was thinking about getting it permed and asked his opinion. Poor guy, looked like a deer caught in the headlights!!! I asked if he liked my hair better straight or curly, and then had to reassure him that I like it both ways, and was trying to make sure that he wouldn't be absolutely opposed to me getting my hair permed. Mollified he then proceeded to let me know that he likes my hair a little bit better curly. So I am now considering it, but am terrified!!!
What if I don't like it after a week?! I don't want to have to straighten it every day!
What if it looks horrible, or isn't how I pictured it at all?!
So my dear bloggy friends, what do YOU think? Vote on my poll and let me know....

SO funny that you want a perm! I just got one a couple of weeks ago since I was sick of dealing with flat hair (the humidity out here in Philly is terrible). I don't think that it looks very good because the lady used two different sizes of curlers and the bigger size curl didn't take very well so every other section of my hair is curly. In the summer I generally wear my hair up so it hasn't been a problem ... yet. Make sure you get a good consult before you go in and best of luck! (Phillip got the same look in his eyes when I told him I was going to get a perm ... I don't think he likes it one bit.)
i voted! yes, i think you should get a perm. the bigger curl ideal sounds fabulous. i would do that.
Well, I think you should get a perm! And if you don't like it...sloppy bun it!!! It's the solution to all bad hair days!!! :-)
hi carrie -
this is kind of random, but i am coordinating meals and other needs for the badger family. i noticed that you commented on cara's blog and i am wondering if you want me to add you to the e-mail list.
e-mail me at lclaity@gmail.com if you want to.
And i think a perm would look beautiful. =)
you go, girl! i'm all for trying new things and honestly i think it would look awesome!
i got one when i was pregnant with kaitlyn and it didn't take very well. :( i was so bummed. maybe someday i'll try it again.
yes, you should do it. it will look beautiful! can't go wrong with curly hair. :)
Ok, so you wrote that the $3000 dress was over half you wedding budget. It sounds like we pretty much have the same amount of money as you guys did. Any tips on how you pulled it off??? I know that we are inviting a lot of people and I don't think that we can cut back in that area. We are just doing like munchy appetizers and cake at the reception. Other than that...not sure on how to make it cheap.
Oh, and Jason is paying for my dress so that doesn't come out of the budget.
Lavish me with your wisdom!!!!!!
PS: I would LOVE to get a perm but I'm afraid that it wouldn't stay in....hmmm. I've never been gutsy enough to go for it! I love curly hair!
Thanks for the help, Carrie! So, what did you decide to do with your hair?!
